Research on Full-Waveform Distance Protection Algorithm for PV Transmission Lines

The fault characteristics of photovoltaic (PV) power station outgoing lines differ from those of traditional synchronous generators due to the influence of power electronic devices and converter control strategies. This study analyzes the adaptability of distance protection for PV outgoing lines under different fault regions and types. A full-waveform-based distance protection algorithm for PV outgoing lines is proposed and validated through simulation. The results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm is unaffected by the limited short-circuit current magnitude and controlled phase angle of PV stations while exhibiting strong tolerance to transition resistance.
