Wind Turbine Frequency Regulation Strategy Considering Optimal Release Path of Rotor Kinetic Energy

To improve the frequency stability of highproportion new energy power system, wind turbines (WTs) should have the ability of frequency active support. Compared with load shedding reserve control, WTs operate at the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) by releasing the rotor kinetic energy (RKE) to participate in primary frequency regulation (PFR), which can raise the utilization rate of wind energy. The key to WTs participation in PFR based on RKE lies in determining the amount of RKE released under different power disturbances and how to utilize the limited RKE to achieve the optimal frequency support. Given the above issues, originating from the core demand for improving the maximum frequency drop (MFD), a frequency regulation strategy of WTs considering the optimal release path of RKE. Firstly, the additional power control of WTs is proposed, and analyze the influence of control parameters on the frequency regulation performance. Then, the power trajectory optimization model of WTs is proposed. Considering the large and small power disturbance scenarios, the optimization objectives are designed respectively to realize the optimal release path of WTs RKE. Finally, simulation results show that the proposed PFR strategy can mostly improve the frequency nadir point and fully utilize the frequency regulation ability of WTs based on RKE under various disturbance scenarios.
