Optimization of Source-Grid-Load-Storage Coordination of Power Systems Based on Multiple Time Scale Model

Driven by the dual-carbon goal, the construction of renewable energy-dominated power systems is facing operational challenges brought by the high proportion of renewable energy access. In order to realize the better utilization of energy storage technology for renewable energy-dominated power systems, this study is dedicated to proposing an energy storage planning method adapted to the development of renewable energy-dominated power systems, and constructing a multi-dimensional energy storage planning model: The spatial dimension establishes a synergistic layout model for source-grid-load-storage coordination of power systems, the temporal dimension develops multiple-time-scale optimization algorithms, and the technological dimension integrates a synergistic state of charge control strategy for variable speed pumped hydro storage and electrochemical energy storage. Case study analysis shows that the total capacity of energy storage in Guangdong Province will need to reach 57.8GW by 2035, of which the planned capacity of pumped hydro storage will be 40.8GW, and the planned capacity of renewable energy storage will be 17GW. This research model provides theoretical support and practical reference for energy storage planning in high percentage renewable energy scenarios, verifies the effectiveness of multi-technology synergy and multiple-time-scale optimization, and provides theoretical support and a practical path for the construction of renewable energy-dominated power systems.
