Design and Implementation of direct S-band telemetry data receiver using SDR

Telemetry data receivers are an essential component of the ground station that receives subsystem information data of satellites. Mostly superheterodyne architecture is being used in this type of receiver. This paper demonstrates a direct S-band telemetry data receiver designed and implemented using Software Defined Radio (SDR). The reception of the signal directly at S-band is the advantage of this design. Hence, down-converters are not required. Zero-IF architecture is used for the implementation. The receiver is demodulating PCM/PSK/PM signal at 2250 MHz with a time-varying doppler. Simulated and actual satellite signals are used to evaluate the performance.
