Energy Saving Model for Railway Signalling using Wireless Sensor Networks

Railway Signalling technology undergone a drastic transformation from semaphore type mechanical signals to Color light signals, but energy consumption also increased along with fast pace of development .The power supply consumption for operation of signalling has become a big challenge due to round the clock operation of signalling gears (like Signal, Point, Track circuits,). These systems run on logic circuits operated through relays and motors , there the system requires uninterrupted power supply arrangement at Station, Relay Huts, Level Crossing(LC) Gate lodge. The power loss in taking feedback of operation status back to central rule-base gives a big challenge. The existing power transferring media, through metallic cables (Copper, Aluminum, PIJF, Quad) carries power information, results in huge power loss. In Railway Electrified area , these metallic cables are highly prone to power loss due to induced voltage from 25 KV ( OHE) live wires used .The Primary purpose of this paper is to replace wired technology to wireless technology that will ensure saving of Energy and quality of data at faster rate too.
