FPGA Implementation of Image Pre-Processing Module for Glaucoma Detection

This paper presents the conventional method for the detection of glaucoma by deploying image processing techniques with focus on the pre-processing techniques for the enhancing the quality of image using MATLAB. The work done in this paper employs various filtering and edge detection techniques by removing the noise and improving the accuracy of image for further processes i.e. feature extraction for the early detection of Glaucoma from the retinal fundus images. Further, the implementation of these techniques on the Field Programming Gate Array (FPGAs) as the next step in this research will facilitate the real-time processing by reducing the latency. This research aims to contribute to the development of effective diagnostics tools which can be proven helpful in the early detection of Glaucoma.
