Quantum Dot Enhancement Film

Quantum dot enhancement film (QDEF) stands as one of the first widespread consumer applications of quantum dot (QD) technology, and it remains the predominant QD technology in use as of 2024, including its derived forms such as the QD diffuser plate. An optical component for liquid crystal displays (LCDs), QDEF has been integrated into over 70 million display devices by the end of 2024, including tablets, notebooks, and televisions. Since its introduction in 2013, QDEF technology has helped maintain LCDs’ leadership in the display market by elevating picture quality to a state‐of‐the‐art level and providing consumers with an excellent visual experience despite strong competition from advanced technologies such as OLEDs. This chapter explores the evolution of color performance in displays, the early history and commercialization of QDEF, its color performance benefits for LCDs, and its ongoing development and continued market traction.
