IOT-Based Prepaid Energy Meter with Theft Monitoring and Control System

The traditional postpaid electricity billing system presents challenges such as delayed payments, energy theft, and inefficient power usage. We propose an IoT-based prepaid energy meter with theft detection and control capabilities to surmount these issues. The system consists of a smart energy meter with an embedded microcontroller, IoT connectivity, and a prepaid billing system. The suggested model enables real-time monitoring of energy consumption, autonomous balance deduction, and remote load control via a cloud-based application. Additionally, it also features a theft detection algorithm that identifies unauthorized connections and alerts utility providers. The system's impact in improving energy management, reducing electricity theft, and improving consumer awareness of energy usage are demonstrated by experimental results.
