Analysis of Transmission Tower’s Mechanical Properties with Anti-icing Wire

Anti-icing wire is a new type of transmission conductor with slippery liquid infused porous surfaces. There’s no systematic conclusions on the mechanical properties of transmission towers after its installation. Focused on a typical overhead transmission line ice cover of 500 kV in Guizhou province, a finite element model of the transmission tower has been established through COMSOL for conducting the analysis of mechanical properties in the study. The results show that the greater the wind speed, the greater the maximum axial stress and the maximum nodal displacement of the tower under the same ice thickness. Under the same wind speed, the greater the ice thickness, the greater the maximum axial stress and the maximum nodal displacement of the tower, and as the thickness of ice increases, the influence of wind speed on nodal displacement becomes greater.
