Sea Buoy in Oil Spillage Detection

Oil spill pollution of the marine environment is a serious threat to the marine biota. It is very essential to identify and respond to such spills early in order to minimize the environmental effect of the spill. This research encourages the construction of a buoy system that will be responsible for identifying oil spills in marine environments. This buoy uses an Arduino system and is equipped with various sensors, such as moisture and turbidity sensors, to survey the state of water. The moisture sensor senses the presence of oil on the surface of water and the turbidity sensor senses changes in water clarity. Additionally, the GPS module provides real-time geospatial position of the buoy, and the GSM module provides immediate alerts to concerned authorities with the detection of an oil spill. The proposed system is a low-cost, real-time system with the vision of the instant detection and management of spills and hence guarding of the marine environment and the minimization of the ecological footprint.
