Dynamic Interactive Framework of Power System Considering Multiple VSC Integration

Increased integration of converter-based power electronic devices into power systems has significantly changed power system’s dynamic performances. Traditional power system analysis methods usually simplify converters’ model and control strategy, which is useful in the power system with few converters but cannot show real dynamic characteristics of the power system with high proportional converters integration. However, the traditional electromagnetic transient analysis method is based on a detailed model, which takes much time to build and run while taking computing resource support. For system operators, most of the time, they may focus on containing dynamic interaction between AC network and grid-integrated converters but not the devices themselves. Thus, how to reflect interaction characteristics between the AC network and converters while easily model building and running receives much attention. In this paper, a mathematical control model to represent the dynamic interaction between the renewable energy system and the power system is developed. The proposed model could be used in power system analysis with multiple converters integration. Different from the conventional model, the proposed mathematical control model adopts a unified matrix form that considers the complete control strategy of grid-integrated converters. A novel dynamic interactive framework, considering various renewable energy system structures, is proposed to show the dynamic interaction between AC networks and renewable energy converters based on the mathematical control model. The simulation results based on the Matlab/Simulink indicate that the proposed dynamic interactive framework has good performances on interaction characteristics reflecting between AC networks and multiple converters.
