Fast Link Recovery via PTP-Synchronized Nanosecond Optical Switching

This paper proposes and experimentally validates a novel approach to network failure recovery using PTP-synchronized high-speed optical switching integrated with Software-Defined Networking (SDN) control. Our system demonstrates precise optical switching with 8.4ns switching time and 100ns jitter at the switching edges, implemented through Open-Timecard PTP-based switching. Through experimental evaluation of PTP-based synchronization and network recovery systems, we demonstrate the effectiveness of our PTP-SDN method for both instant network recovery within 2.7ms and ^scheduled recovery operations. The achieved ultra-fast switching times represent significant improvements in optical network recovery capabilities.
