System Model Formulation and Evaluation

Summary

This chapter introduces methods useful in formulation and evaluation of system models. Equilibrium and linearization methods are described, including use of bond graphs for steady‐state and source load analysis. Emphasis is given in this chapter to ways for checking and developing models before they are used in analysis and design. Methods for deriving transfer functions are reviewed, along with ways for constructing hybrid models of bond graphs and block diagrams. In addition, this chapter introduces techniques for evaluating validity of constitutive relations of system elements. Further, the concept of modulation is extensively described, showing how it should be properly applied and how modulation is essential in the construction of a wide range of practical system models.
