Numerical Simulation of Gas-solid Two-phase rotating Detonation Engine Based on Aluminum Powder Fuel

In order to study the detonation wave propagation process and flow field structure in the gas-solid two-phase rotating detonation combustor with aluminum powder as fuel, the two-dimensional unsteady Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes governing equations were solved based on the SST k-ω viscous turbulence model. The single-step chemical reaction mechanism was used to numerically calculate the rotating detonation combustion of aluminum powder fuel under different variables. The characteristics of different transient flow field structures and particle distribution were discussed and analyzed, and the influence on the propagation characteristics of detonation wave was evaluated. The results show that under the same equivalence ratio, the detonation wave pressure and detonation wave propagation velocity under premixed conditions are higher than those under non-premixed conditions. The maximum difference of detonation wave pressure is 49 %, and the maximum difference of detonation wave velocity is 24 %. With the increase of the total temperature of the incoming flow, the peak pressure and propagation velocity of the detonation wave decrease, and the height of the detonation wave increases, which is consistent with the C-J theory. There is a range of air flow rate that can stabilize detonation combustion. The detonation wave pressure, detonation wave propagation velocity and average Mach number at the outlet of the combustion chamber increase with the increase of air flow rate. The more the number of injection groups is, the more uniform the fuel distribution is. When the number of injection groups increases from 25 to 100, the OTDF value decreases from 0.7576 to 0.5156, showing a decreasing trend. The propagation velocity and peak pressure of detonation wave increase, and the uniformity of total temperature distribution at the outlet of combustion chamber increases. The research results reveal the factors and laws that affect the performance of the rotating detonation engine fueled with aluminum powder, and provide some theoretical guidance for the engineering application of the powder rotating detonation engine.
