Weighting Factor-Free Predictive Direct Speed Control of PMSM Drives with Virtual Voltage Vectors and Voltage Vector Preselection

Model Predictive Control (MPC) has gained significant traction in the control of permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drives due to its fast response and ability to handle system constraints. However, conventional predictive direct speed control (PDSC) methods rely on weighting factors, which require complex tuning and increase computational burden. To address these challenges, this paper proposes a direct voltage selection (DVS)-based PDSC scheme that eliminates the need for weighting factors while significantly improving computational efficiency. The method further enhances performance by incorporating virtual voltage vectors (VVVs), expanding the number of selectable voltage vectors from seven to 19, thereby reducing current harmonics and torque ripples. To mitigate the additional computational complexity introduced by VVVs, a voltage vector preselection (VVP) strategy is implemented, ensuring real-time feasibility. The results of the comparative simulation demonstrate that the proposed approach outperforms conventional PDSC methods, achieving superior speed regulation, reduced ripple effects, and enhanced dynamic response under various operating conditions. This control strategy is particularly well suited for real-time applications in embedded and low-cost systems, where computational efficiency and high performance are critical.
