Research of the Handle Force in Civil Aircraft Sliding Windows

This study investigates the factors that affect the force needed to operate window handles, specifically examining frictional forces and over-center angles. Drawing on practical engineering insights, the research evaluates how over-center design and the frictional characteristics of rollers and slide tracks in window structures influence handle forces. Significant variations in handle force are observed with varying over-center angles. Incorporating sealing components significantly increases the required handle force. Further investigation shows that adjusting slide track friction and minimizing over-center angles effectively decreases handle force. Using pure rolling friction reduces handle force to 92% of the baseline, and a minimum over-center angle of 3° reduces it to 70%. This study offers practical engineering optimization recommendations for managing handle forces in window design.
