The Preliminary Achievement of the Establishment of a Green Hospital with the Example of a Hospital in Central Taiwan

China Medical University Hospital (CMUH) demonstrates its commitment to sustainability through the Green Health Hospital Declaration and systematic implementation of ISO 50001, ISO 14064, and ISO 46001 standards since 2015. These frameworks optimize energy usage, reduce GHG emissions, and enhance water efficiency, forming a robust foundation for achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. Key strategies include advanced ICT, big data analytics, renewable energy integration, and improved waste management systems.From 2018 to 2024, CMUH reduced total energy consumption by 5% and electricity usage by 7.3%, saving 3.23 million kWh annually. Paper usage decreased by 68.6%, and waste recycling achieved a 70% rate, with a 28-ton annual growth in recyclables. These initiatives establish CMUH as a leader in sustainable healthcare, balancing operational efficiency with environmental stewardship.
