A Global Challenge-Based Learning Initiative Applying Enabling Technologies for Entrepreneurship

Entrepreneurship education has become increasingly relevant for societies. Consequently, Higher Education institutions constantly review their teaching methods to offer better and more innovative programs in this area. Challengebased learning helps students develop competencies while working on real projects and collaborating with different actors from the industry and academy. This study proposes the development of entrepreneurial competencies of students enrolled in a course designed around an international Challenge-based Learning between two institutions in Spain and Mexico. The experience has been developed through an online learning format with a real challenge delivered by an academic partner who was involved and interacted with students online and face-to-face in the two different locations. The goal for students was to learn, use, and apply data analytics through machine learning and to create an innovative solution around the challenge. Pre- and post-surveys were conducted to analyze the students' perceptions and performance in the learning experience. Results and findings show the students' perception regarding the development of learning through the challenge experience and the engrossment of the training partner regarding entrepreneurship and innovation competencies, multiculturalism, and the use of technologies to resolve the challenge. This work contribution shows the relevance of the Global Challenge-based Learning framework and its impact on collaborating with different disciplines and being open to diversity, especially when developing solutions for real problems. This work highlights the importance of practical teaching methods in entrepreneurship and the relevance of working in multidisciplinary and multicultural environments.
