A Comprehensive Comparative Analysis of Ieee Std 80 and En 50522 in Ground Grid Design

This paper presents a comprehensive comparative analysis for AC substation ground grid design based on two prominent standards: IEEE Std 80 and EN 50522. The standards are compared across various aspects, including allowable body current, calculation methodologies for tolerable touch voltage and step voltage, soil modeling complexity, and capability to calculate actual touch voltage and step voltage. Furthermore, the paper evaluates the results obtained from both standards comparing with those derived from a numerical method based on Finite Element Method, enabling a thorough assessment of each method's strengths and limitations.
