VisionEdge: Cataract Detection via Smartphone

Cataracts, a prevalent eye disease globally, often go undetected until later stages due to complex diagnostic methods. This paper presents VisionEdge, which employs Edge Intelligence for cataract detection using a smartphone. With a 99.11% accuracy rate and a small size that makes it perfect for mobile deployment, MobileNetV2 was the best model among those that were evaluated. Hence, making remarkable improvements towards enhancing cataract screening. Deployed through the SmartEye Android app, it significantly enhances accessibility to cataract screening by eliminating the need for specialized equipment. Integrating mobile technology and Edge Intelligence promises a widespread impact on healthcare delivery, potentially expanding to address other ocular diseases.
