Distributed Fault Estimation for Interconnected Systems Under Energy Constraints

This article investigates the distributed fault estimation problem for interconnected systems with energy constraints. Unlike fault estimation methods that assume sensors have enough energy for perfect data transmission, we focus on how to achieve satisfactory estimation performance under energy constraints, where intermittent sensor-estimator communication is caused by energy constraints. First, the energy-dependent distributed fault estimator is developed, which is communicated by the binary encoding transmission strategy (BETS) considering bit flipping. By designing the distributed estimator gain, the stable operation of the interconnected system is guaranteed under faults and bit flipping. Second, the optimal energy allocation strategy is proposed to minimize estimation error under the total energy constraint. Third, the relationship between the bit flipping probability (BFP) and the allocated energy with respect to the estimation performance is revealed theoretically, respectively. Finally, simulation results are provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed distributed fault estimation method.
