Models and filters for traveling wave disturbance problems

A stochastic distributed system model is developed whose state variables have the interpretation of a Gaussian wave. The model is applied to derive a smoothing filter by means of the Kalman-Bucy formalism, and to synthesize a disturbance model useful in unit-train control problems.
