Wavelet Transform and Brain Mapping for EEG-Based Analysis of Brain Activity During Naps

"This study investigates the impact of napping on brain activity using Electroencephalogram (EEG) data processed with Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) and analyzed through brain mapping. EEG offers high temporal resolution and cost efficiency, making it a reliable tool for understanding brain dynamics during naps. Ten subjects, equally divided by gender, participated in a 20-minute nap session while seated in a relaxed position. DWT was applied to remove noise and artifacts, enabling a detailed analysis of brain activity. The findings revealed a significant reduction in brain activity after 10 minutes of napping, supported by consistent patterns in brain mapping, except in subjects experiencing disruptions in relaxation. Although a 20-minute nap is insufficient for a full sleep cycle, it effectively reduces brain activity, suggesting potential cognitive recovery benefits. This research highlights the utility of EEG and wavelet transform in short-duration sleep studies.
