Implementation of an Audio Signal Level Digital Stereo Indicator Using a PIC Microcontroller

A particularly handy electronic circuit for an audio engineer found in every sound recording studio and can also improve the visual appearance of any audio device if added to the front panel is the sound level indicator circuit, often called a Volume Unit (VU) Meter. This study presents the basic principles of a microcontroller-based audio signal level stereo indicator (VU-Meter) design, emphasizing the lightemitting diodes (LEDs) display technique. The proposed design offers up to six signal display modes with 2 or 3 dB steps in real-time and peak-hold features to replace the past electromechanical devices.
