Architectural Education in the Age of AI: A Review and Future Directions, the Case of CAD at PSU

This research aims to contribute to the hot topic of using AI tools in architectural education. It first reviews the existing recent literature and case studies on this matter. It explores the contributions of AI tools in architectural education and highlights the courses in which AI tools can be effectively incorporated. It then poses various questions regarding the approaches governing the utilisation of AI tools. Consequently, and from the outcomes of this review, the paper sheds light on the College of Architecture and Design (CAD) at Prince Sultan University (PSU), Riyadh/KSA as a case study for a future-forward plan. The research hence conceptualizes a plan to test the suitability of using AI tools and determines at which stage it is more suitable to be incorporated into the architectural learning process. The wider goal of the research is to feed into the ongoing discourse on AI tools in architectural education with specific reference to the ethical concerns and challenges, which is an area that is yet to be filled and proposes the way forward.
