Leveraging Sysml V2 to Enhance System Architecture Decision-Making Based on Process Information

This study investigates how the coupling of SysML 2.0 with a process management and execution platform supports the decision-making process in model-based systems engineering (MBSE). Based on the textual notation of SysML 2.0, a bidirectional real time data exchange of process and system information is proposed to effectively link different engineering processes (in BPMN) to associated system components (in SysML 2.0). Metadata in the form of the number of processes and number of process steps are integrated into corresponding system structure diagram blocks, enabling an estimation of the total system development, production and assembly expense. Furthermore, System attributes, values and descriptions modelled in SysML 2.0 are distributed into different processes. The proposed framework is implemented in python using the. sysml textual format and various APIs. To set up the linking of system components and processes a graphical user interface is implemented in the form of an interactive event-based traceability matrix. An example of a wind turbine system with its associated development, manufacturing and assembly processes is used to demonstrate and evaluate the proposed framework in expert interviews comprising subjects with systems engineering and process management backgrounds. The usability of the implementation is evaluated using the system usability scale.
