Numerical Investigation of Highly Efficient Non-Toxic Buffer Layer for CdTeSe Solar Cell

This research has presented a thorough investigation of the necessity of a buffer layer in CdTeSe solar cells. We have gone through five distinct non-toxic buffer compounds, including ZnMgO, ZnSe, 3C-SiC, and WS2, as promising alternatives in replace of the conventional toxic CdS buffer layer. Our study contains a comprehensive analysis of the optical and electrical characteristics of five different buffer configurations with the main absorber material CdTeSe. Both the buffer and absorber thickness are marked to be optimized for the enhancement of the cell efficiency. Besides, we have demonstrated the profound influence of defect density changes in the buffer materials. The associated consequences of temperature are also examined. Among the selected buffer materials, ZnMgO and ZnSe have the greatest potential, with efficiencies of 20.73% and 20.74%, respectively.
