An Improved Scheme for ALS-Based Channel Estimation for mm-Wave MIMO-OFDM Systems with a Hybrid Transceiver Architecture

Accurate channel estimation is a foundational pre-requisite for unlocking the full potential of MIMO-OFDM technology. In this research work, we investigate the channel estimation problem for mmWave MIMO-OFDM systems with a hybrid transceiver architecture. We modified the conventional Alternating Least Squares (ALS)-based channel estimator and proposed an improved initialization algorithm. The resulting estimator not only exhibits a better convergence rate but also achieves superior estimation performance. The enhanced channel estimation performance of the proposed scheme is then quantified through computer simulations and compared with the theoretical Cramer Rao bounds (CRB).
