Dual-Source Buck-Boost Single-Phase GaN Inverter Without Capacitive DC-Link

This paper presents a novel multi-source inverter concept, based on the use of sinusoidally-modulated DC-DC converters operated in phase-opposition and characterized by a DC-link-capacitor-less assembly. The approach is ideal for wide band-gap semiconductor implementation, enabling very high efficiencies and power densities. A dual-source system is elaborated in detail, including experimental demonstration, and extension to multi-source single-phase and three-phase inverters alike is introduced.
