Design of a 3-bit Full Custom Flash ADC Using Skywater 130nm PDK for Real Time Control Systems

This paper demonstrates the design and implementation of a 3-bit flash analog-to-digital converter (ADC), which is fabricated using the Skywater 130nm Process Design Kit (PDK) for real-time control applications. This ADC is designed considering the requirements of applications such as motor control, robotics, and industrial control where fast and accurate signal conversion is needed. The ADC operates within a voltage supply of 1.8V and is able to perform a 3-bit resolution over a range of input voltages from 0 to 1.8V; this allows the ADC to be compatible with many modern mixed-signal control systems. The design provides a versatile approach by having a small layout that has a silicon area of 500 uM x 300 uM. The proposed architecture makes use of 1.8V CMOS transistors in their circuits, including high-speed comparators and a resistor ladder network, ensuring low-voltage performance. It has a solid six-pin arrangement that assists in real-time system designs. This design includes two power (VDD) and ground (VSS) pins. Then it goes on to explain the results associated with the six-pin configuration, confirming that ADCs trade off between speed and VAC cool time. Last but not least, this component can be a control sensing unit in fast control systems, minimizing power use while providing vitally enabled signal output regarding time-sensitive elements.
