Research on Fast Startup Method of VxWorks Operating System

Compared with many embedded operating system, the VxWorks operating system has a faster startup speed. But it still needs to be improved for many time sensitive systems. This paper analyzes the startup process of VxWorks to identify the factors which affect the startup speed, and proposes a fast startup method based on boot mode, flash and memory improvement. To verify the effectiveness of the fast startup method, a hardware environment based on PowerPC was set up. The experimental results show that it only takes 0.80 s to boot up a 1580 K -sized VxWorks image. Compared with the normal booting time-10 seconds, the fast startup method reduces the total booting time by 91%.
