A Capacitance Extraction Method Using Local Discontinuous Galerkin Method on Adaptive Triangular Meshes

The increasing scale and complexity of integrated circuits (ICs) necessitate accurate and efficient capacitance extraction methods to ensure signal and power integrity. This article introduces an adaptive local discontinuous Galerkin (LDG) method for capacitance extraction, using triangular meshes for easy adaption to intricate dielectric and conductor configurations. The LDG method’s ability to handle discontinuous solutions and complex geometries offers a clear advantage in mesh adaptation. An a posteriori error estimate is used to ensure accurate mesh refinements so that the computational mesh is continuously optimized, leading to more accurate solutions but reduced computational time and storage. Extensive numerical experiments demonstrate the method’s capabilities and superior performance over traditional finite element methods (FEMs).
