Design of Quasi-Z-Source Bidirectional Converter for EV Application Using Sliding Mode Control

Significant progress in transportation technology has accelerated the transition from traditional internal combustion engine vehicles to electric vehicles (EVs). This transition necessitates innovations in battery control, vehicle charging systems, and power management. Consequently, Vehicle-to-Grid (V-G) and Grid-to-Vehicle (G-V) technologies are gaining prominence. A crucial requirement in these applications is an efficient bidirectional converter with robust control mechanisms. This paper presents the design and implementation of a bidirectional converter (BDC) for a 48V, 20AH battery and a 240V, 50Hz grid, utilizing a sliding mode control (SMC) strategy. The proposed system is validated through MATLAB/SIMULINK simulations.
