Target Detection in Sea Clutter Based on Complex Empirical Mode Decomposition

In response to the limitations of traditional time-frequency analysis methods and the issue that previous EMD algorithms overlook the fact that radar signals are complex-valued, a feature detection method for floating small targets on the sea surface is proposed, based on the energy proportion derived from complex EMD. Firstly, the received echo is divided into several intrinsic modal components of different scales independently by using complex EMD, so as to realize the solution of the frequency of the docking recovery wave from high frequency to low frequency. Then, the energy spectral entropy of each component is used to remove the components containing more sea clutter energy to achieve the purpose of suppressing sea clutter, and then the target signal is detected by the energy proportion of the reconstructed signal. Finally, experimental results on the recognized and open IPIX database show that the proposed target detection method has excellent detection capabilities for small floating targets on the sea surface.
