The importance of correlation coefficients in optimizing input data for hybrid FSO/RF systems

This article deals with the use of correlation co-efficients for optimizing input data in hybrid FSO/RF systems, where the RSSI parameter plays a key role. We explain the basic principles of operation of hybrid FSO/RF networks and their vulnerability to atmospheric influences, such as fog or turbulence. Subsequently, we focus on the calculation and interpretation of Pearson, Spearman and Kendall's Tau correlation coefficients, which help to reveal the most important variables for a more accurate RSSI analysis. The results of correlation analyses indicate that a careful selection of input attributes can contribute to a better understanding of the key factors affecting signal quality and thus to a more efficient switching between FSO and RF links in different weather conditions.
