UAV Position Optimization Using PSO and SWIPT

The simulation and optimization of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) positions in a 3D environment play a crucial role in enhancing wireless communication systems. The proposed work named as PSO-SWIPT mechanism presents a comprehensive methodology to attain UAV communication scenario in 3D Trajectory, by optimizing UAV positions using Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), and evaluating the achievable rates while considering Simultaneous Wireless Information and Power Transfer (SWIPT) principles. The proposed approach integrates path loss modelling, Rician fading effects, and energy harvesting considerations to capture real-world wireless communication conditions. The process flow iteratively refines UAV positions and assesses achievable communication rates, resulting in enhanced communication links and efficient UAV trajectories. The used algorithm PSO in this mechanism is a computation method inspired by group behaviour in nature. It’s used for complex optimization problems. Particles representing solutions move based on individual and shared experiences, converging over time to an optimal solution. Similarly SWIPT systems used in combination with PSO, looks for data and power transmission using electromagnetic waves, usually in the radio frequency (RF) or microwave frequency range. The receiving device, often referred to as a "user" or "node" is equipped with circuitry that can separate the received signals into their information and power components. This allows the device to use the receiving power to operate its circuitry while also retrieving the transmitted data. SWIPT is a technology that allows devices to receive both data and energy wirelessly from a source.
