Linear and Planar Projections of DInSAR Multiorbit Displacement Measurements: General Formulation and Application to Landslides

The development of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) interferometry for ground displacement monitoring has led to the implementation of operative services dedicated to the systematic delivery of archives of measurements. The exploitation of such data archives at regional/national scale requires frequently a proper postprocessing of the measurements for their correct interpretation. Measurements are in fact provided in the radar line of sight (LOS) and can be acquired by different angles, recently also with medium inclination orbits. In this work, we consider the problem of projecting differential interferometric SAR (DInSAR) measurements to the ground. We specifically develop a general methodology for linear (i.e., directional) and a planar projection of multiorbit interferometric measurements, including its particularization to sloping terrains. Presented results highlight that the proposed projection methodology can provide useful and further options for the interpretation of the SAR displacement measurements with reference to the application to landslide monitoring.
