A Low Power 7.05-10.10 GHz 90-nm CMOS LNA Radio Astronomy Receivers

The frequency ranges between 7.05 and 10.10 GHz are required for applications of radar, weather observation, military reconnaissance, and satellite communication. Electromagnetic waves get converted into electrical signals with the help of low noise amplifiers and antennas. Signals are then mixed, filtered, and demodulated in order to get information from these signals. This paper presents a method that employs a cascode stage in a common-gate design. The LNA operates across the entire H-band frequency range of 7.05-10.10 GHz and is built using 90nm CMOS technology. The device achieves a minimum noise figure of 1.4 dB with a DC power consumption of 0.45 mW, and it also offers a peak power gain of 38 dB. Ultimately, this method enables radio astronomers to discover new celestial events by creating more efficient communication networks.
