Energy Self-Sufficiency by Building and Load Type in Smart Village Community: A Large-Scale Long-Term Experimental Evaluation

This study developed an energy sharing platform technology and conducted a long-term experimental evaluation of energy self-sufficiency rate for a smart village community located in Busan. This community is a large-scale demonstration site to verify how much renewable energy installed in buildings can self-sufficiency in the electricity and thermal energy consumed in buildings in order to realize greenhouse gas reduction in the building sector. The community consists of 56 residential households, a cultural center, and a community data center. The self-sufficiency rate for each building was analyzed using long-term data measured for 22 months from March 2022 to December 2023. In the residential building, we analyzed the self-sufficiency rate for the 5 major loads (heating, cooling, hot water, ventilation, lighting) consumed by residents in 56 households compared to the installed renewable energy production, as well as the self-sufficiency rate of the EV load installed in each household. The impact of the EV load on the total consumption load of residential households was small. The energy self-sufficiency rate of the cultural center and community data center was found to be greatly affected by the electricity consumption pattern.
