1 Introduction

Readers looking to a book about ethics and brain science may wish to jump directly to pages praising or impugning novel devices, or to passages condoning or condemning radical experiments. We too have felt that urge to get to the "green lights" and "red lights" sections of new books to get guidance about welcomings and warnings. Hopefully those authors know what is rightly ethical and can judge technoscience accordingly, or else they don't and therefore can't. Books that fail trusty intuitions soon lose one's trust, and the next new book is already arriving.
