A Secure and Lightweight IIoT Data Authentication Using PUF-Based in IoT Fog-Assisted Cloud

Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) generates a vast amount of data through sensors and devices within the industrial environments every day. In many cases, this data is sensitive and needs protection, but it is challenging due to the distribution and limited resources of IIoT devices. Existing works typically focus on designing lightweight encryption algorithms to enable the IoT data to be done efficiently in the resource-constrained devices. However, most works do not simultaneously address the lightweight authentication and data encryption while reducing the communication overhead among multiple devices and IoT data processing units such as fog computing. Ensuring the authenticity, integrity and reliability of the IIoT data is therefore necessary. To this end, we proposed a secure and lightweight authentication scheme for HoT-fog computing using Physical Unclonable Function (PUF) and our proposed group authentication protocols. For data encryption and integrity preservation, we utilize the AES, ECDSA, and Message Authentication Code (MAC). Finally, we conducted the experiments to evaluate the performance and efficiency of our proposed scheme. The results confirm that the performance of data authentication of our proposed model is more efficient than traditional methods.
