Investigation of Pulsed Nanocrystalline Magnetic Core Behavior

This research investigates the behavior of nanocrystalline magnetic cores subject to high magnetization rates in pulsed experiments. The two core materials considered in this work are the nanocrystalline FINEMET™ FT-3KL and FT-3KM. The single and multi-pulse behavior of each core has been examined under high magnetization rates to demonstrate the influence of the magnetization rate on the shape of the hysteresis curve. Based on the measured core behavior, a pulsed magnetic core behavioral simulation model has been developed in LTSpice to provide quick and more accurate results than the conventional LTSpice options. Unlike the default LTSpice saturable core models, this model targets use in pulsed power systems with high magnetization rates. The prevailing feature of this model is the pulsed voltage dependence that captures the experimentally observed hysteresis curve widening effect.
