A Family of Three-Level Pseudo Totem-Pole PFC Rectifiers with Derivation Methods

This article introduces four power factor correction (PFC) rectifier topological derivation methods, which are the cascade derivation, the equivalent working-mode derivation, the mirror transformation and the redundancy transformation, re-spectively. Then, the four topological derivation methodologies are presented in detail and the pseudo totem-pole (PTP) PFC is selected as typical example to explain derivation processes. Con-sequently, a new family of PFC rectifiers with three-level capabil-ity is proposed in this paper, called as three-level PTP rectifier (TLPR) including five circuits. Moreover, a comprehensive anal-ysis of the operation principle for the TLPR-I is presented in detail, and the other four circuits’ switching-pulse of the opera-tion modes and the key simulation waveforms are summarized and given. In addition, a three-level modulation method is de-signed for this kind of TLPR topology. Furthermore, the number of switch devices, component stress, performance comparison and loss of the five circuits are provided. Finally, three 1kW pro-totypes are built and tested to validate the theoretical analysis of the proposed TLPR topology and derivation methods.
