Parameter Estimation of Five-Phase Induction Motors From Unbalanced Steady-State Tests

This paper introduces a new method to estimate the electrical parameters of five-phase induction motors from steady-state tests executed with the rotor at a standstill. The method is based on the unbalanced steady-state model and the corresponding equivalent circuits, from which we estimate all parameters related to the fundamental and the third-harmonic airgap induction using only measurements of stator voltages and currents. Additionally, the method requires a separate measurement of the stator resistance. Further, we validated the proposed method through practical tests taken on a prototype induction motor of 4.5 kW; these tests demonstrate not only that the proposed method gives accurate and acceptable results but also illustrate some of the relevant advantages compared with similar methods.
