Computed design and measured electrical loads on farms

Sections 220-40 and 220-41 of the National Electrical Code (NEC) deal with electrical design criteria for the computation of farm loads. Those sections are based on the American Society of Agricultural Engineers (ASAE) Engineering practice EP294.1 entitled, '''Computing Electrical Demands for Farms'. Peak electric demand data and equipment surveys of over 280 farms in Kansas and Nebraska were collected between 1980 and 1985. Design loads computed by the method specified in Article 220 of the NEC and actual measured loads revealed that the latter were generally less than the former. However, a few measured loads actually exceeded the computed design load.<
