Pattern Synthesis Based on Numerical Optimization for Conformal Multi-Source Antennas

Radiation pattern synthesis of conformal antennas is a complex operation. This paper introduces an approach for computing the excitation law (in phase only then in amplitude and phase) of a multi-source conformal antenna. The constrained and unconstrained optimization of the excitation complex magnitude on each element has been performed using a gradient algorithm. The correct functioning of the algorithm is verified on a 48 elements conformal ARMA (Agile Radiating Matrix Antenna) antenna.
