Spoof Localized Surface Plasmon Polariton for Sensing Applications

This work proposes a novel Spoof Localized Surface Plasmon Polariton (SLSPP) based resonator for sensing applications using GaAs IPD (Integrated Passive Device) technology. The resonator is designed using stepped-width unit cells and is rotated at a multiple of 45 - and 90 -degree angles to form 8 arms arranged symmetrically. The proposed spoof localized surface plasmon resonator is excited by a spoof surface plasmon polariton (SSPP) based transmission line. The designing is done considering the design rules of GaAs IPD technology. The proposed structure can be tuned from the microwave to the terahertz domain by varying the geometrical parameters. The sensor shows a good variation in transmission frequency of around 5.5 GHz when the dielectric value placed on the resonator varies from 5 to 10. These resonators can be easily integrated and have a wide range of applications in the terahertz sensing domain.
