A TFT-Based On-Chip Optical Sensor for Detection of Chemiluminescence in Lab-on-a-Chip

The chemiluminescent signal in lab-on-a-chip (LOC) is generally weak and also has a short lifetime, hence, a sensitive and fast detector is required for detection. Aiming for acquisition of chemiluminescent signal in LOCs, we report on a thin-film transistor (TFT)-based optical sensor and its differential circuit for on-chip detection of chemiluminescent events. The proposed device and circuit manufactured by an industrial-standard TFT-LCD production line demonstrate a wide dynamic range of over 120dB, a high photoconductive gain of over 100, and a high amplifier transimpedance gain of over $10^{{8}}$ V/A, making it a great promise for LOCs.
