Orthogonal Peak Cancellation: A Bandwidth-Efficient Companding Method for PAPR Reduction in OFDM

Companding techniques are effective in reducing the Peak-to-Average Power Ratio (PAPR) in Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) systems; however, they lead to either bandwidth expansion or degradation in Bit Error Rate (BER) performance. To overcome these limitations, we propose a novel companding method that incorporates Orthogonal Peak Cancellation (OPC). Although OPC may introduce spectral leakage, this leakage does not convey useful information and can be discarded. The proposed approach maintains the original bandwidth, thereby enhancing spectral efficiency. Simulation results demonstrate that, under bandwidth constraints, the proposed method offers improved BER performance compared to conventional companding schemes.
