Dual-Band Same-Sense Circularly Polarized Grid-Metasurface Antenna for C-Band Spectrum Utilization

This paper proposes a dual-band circularly-polarized (CP) grid-metasurface (MTS) antenna for C-band frequencies. The proposed CP grid-MTS antenna comprised of upper, middle, and lower substrates. A 3 × 4 rotated H-shaped grid-MTS unit elements were located on upper substrate. A slot ground plane and feed line were positioned on middle and lower substrates, respectively. The H-shaped grid-MTS scheme can be converted linear-to-circular polarization. To achieve dual-band CP radiation, the Z-shaped slot and grid-MTS scheme rotation were applied to manipulate a return loss (RLBW) and axial ratio bandwidth (ARBW). The proposed antenna achieved simulated RLBW between 3.85 – 5.7 GHz (lower band) and 5.81 – 6.78 GHz (upper band). The simulated ARBW of 4.31 – 4.94 GHz for upper band and 6.2 GHz for lower band. The variation realized gain were between 3.86 – 5.78 dBic for lower band and 3.58 dBic for upper band. In addition, the proposed antenna obtained a dual-band same-sense right-hand circular polarization, rendering this antenna suitable and functional for C-band technology.
